  84. GETTING STARTED
  85. ---------------
  86. The information provided below is to help you start the program for 
  87. your hardware configuration.  For more details about the operation of 
  88. the program press the F1 (function) key once you have started the 
  89. program. (Make sure you have run the Self-Extracting Utility File 
  90. first!!). 
  91.  
  92. Before you start using the program, we suggest that you make a working
  93. disk/directory.  The SETUP.BAT file, provided on this diskette, should 
  94. make the task easy.  Log on to the drive/directory containing the DRAFT
  95. CHOICE files, type setup and press ENTER for instructions:
  96.  
  97. DRAFT CHOICE is started from DOS using the command:
  98.

  103.     /H     - Enables graphics for Hercules
  104.     /E     - Enables graphics for EGA
  105.     /ATT   - Enables ATT display graphics
  106.     /EV    - Enables VGA (640x480) Graphics
  107.     /Q     - Quick screen updating for CGA
  108.     /V1    - Force CGA mode on VGA monitor
  109.     /NT    - No Keyboard Turbo (Eliminates conflicts with some programs 
  110.              that directly manipulate the keyboard registers)
  111.     /MONO  - Used with monitors that do not display shades properly
  112.     /NE    - Do not use Expanded memory even if it is detected
  113.     /VM=NN - Use the disk drive to emulate EMS RAM. NN=number of 16K pages
  114.     /VP=d:\Path; - Path for the Virtual Memory (Note the ; at the end)

  118. NEW in  Ver. 1.51
  119. -----------------------------------------------------------------
  120. (a)  F5 - De-Select Entity Toggle
  121. Pressing F5 now toggles the entity selection mode from ADD to 
  122. SUBTRACT.  For example, if 10 entities had been selected for copying 
  123. and the second selection made had to be de-selected, press F5 to 
  124. toggle the SUBtract mode ON, go to the desired second entity and de-
  125. select it by using either the window or the pick mode. 
  126.  
  127. (b)  Draft Choice now features two types of fill patterns.  Bit 
  128. mapped and vector based.  The bit mapped patterns are basically the 
  129. fill patterns that where available in version 1.5, and they are meant 
  130. to be used when plotting will be done on a dot matrix or laserjet 
  131. printer.  Vector based fill patterns, on the other hand, are 
  132. constructed from complex line entities and are to be used when 
  133. plotting will be done on a pen plotter.  Please, note that both fill 
  134. pattern types can be mixed in the same drawing.... 
  135.  
  136. An attempt was made to match the two types of patterns closely, 
  137. however, this is not always possible. The user will have to convert 
  138. some of these patterns manually when going from one type to the 
  139. other. 
  140.  
  141. (c)  A new printer driver was added to the program for the OKIDATA 
  142. 182+ series of 9-pin Dot Matrix Printers.   The driver, based on the 
  143. printer documentation, should also work for the 24-pin OKI printers 
  144. but is has not been tested on such printers explicitly. Any comments 
  145. would be appreciated.  CAUTION: This driver assumes that the OKIDATA 
  146. printer is in the OKIDATA graphics mode.  The EPSON printer drivers 
  147. should be selected if the EPSON graphics mode is set on your OKIDATA 
  148. printer.

  150. (d)  In order to facilitate navigation through large symbol 
  151. libraries, a Previous [page] and Next [page] commands were added 
  152. under the Symbol, Use dialog window. 
  153.  
  154. (e)  The MEASURE, DIMENSION command now has two options, Place and 
  155. Setup.  Place, of course, is self evident, it places a dimension 
  156. line.  Setup, on the other hand, now gives the user the capability to 
  157. select one of the following options: 
  158.  
  159.  Parallel
  160.    Toggling this option ON, indicates that the dimension text will be 
  161.    placed above a solid dimension line, and parallel to the line.

  166.    This option indicates that regardless of the orientation of the 
  167.    dimension line, the dimension text will be horizontal and the 
  168.    dimension line will not be solid.

  173.    Arrows will be used to define the end of the dimension lines.

  179.    Small line segments, perpendicular to the dimension line, will be 
  180.    used to signify the precise end of the line.

  185. (f)  The Measure, Query submenu now contains a new command, INFO. 
  186. Invoking this command provides you with information about the current 
  187. RAM usage, the number of entities that may be handled with the 
  188. current configuration, etc. 
  189.  
  190. (g)  The OPTION, COLOR command now gives you the ability to change the 
  191. color of many options: 
  192.  
  193.   MENU  -  Change the color of the menu pull-down window
  194.   LETTER  -  Change the color of the first letter in each menu option 
  195.   HILITE  -  Change the color of menu highlight bar
  196.   SCREEN  -  Set the color of all entities, text, etc. that will be 
  197.     placed on the screen.  Note that the bottom (background) color 
  198.     bar has no effect on the color while changing the screen color 
  199.     attributes.  The background will always be black.  If you select 
  200.     a different background color, then entities might become 
  201.     temporarily invisible, while they are drawn, although they become 
  202.     visible again when an Image, Update command is executed. 
  203.  
  204.     Also, note that because of the multicolor scheme used, 
  205.     selecting Blue, Red, Purple, Light Gray or High Intensity 
  206.     Blue, might result in symbols temporarily overwriting the 
  207.     screen when the Symbol, Used command in invoked. 
  208.  
  209.   PROMPT  -  Change the color of the input prompt line
  210.   ACTIVE  -  Change the color of the currently selected default 
  211.              option in dialog windows 
  212.   INACTIVE  -  Change the color of options not selected in dialog 
  213.                windows 
  214.  
  215. When one of these options is selected, the user is presented with two 
  216. color bars, one displaying the foreground and the other the 
  217. background color options.  on both sides of each bar, there are 
  218. arrows pointing to the left and right respectively.  Clicking on one 
  219. of these arrows, moves the small, double-block selection cursor 
  220. through the various colors.  The block titled 'COLOR' displays a 
  221. sample of the current foreground/background combination. 
  222.      
  223. (h)  The option OPTION, TOGGLE menu displays a new option, WHITE.  
  224. This option is currently disabled. 
  225.      
  226. (i)  User font editing and new font definition has been made much 
  227. simpler by allowing the use of any entity (not just simple line 
  228. segments) in creating characters.  The user defined elements are 
  229. automatically converted by the program when the new character 
  230.  
  231. definitions are created and saved. (see note at the end for info on 
  232. creating/editing font characters). 
  233.  
  234. (j)  Pressing the home key will now place the cross-hair cursor in 
  235. the middle of the screen.  This should eliminate the problem in 
  236. trying to figure out where the cross-hair cursor is in complex 
  237. drawings or when the cursor is off to one of the sides. 
  238.  
  239. (k)  The program detects if a mouse driver is active and disables the 
  240. Keyboard Turbo mode.  This was done to avoid problems that had been 
  241. reported with the Turbo mode interfering on systems with certain 
  242. keyboard BIOS versions. 
  243.  
  244. (l)  A new toggle option was added, DEPTH, under the Options, Toggle 
  245. sub-menu.  This option toggles the 3-Dimensional look of options in 
  246. the dialog windows ON/OFF. 
  247.  
  248. (m)  When output to a plotter has been selected, the user is given an 
  249. opportunity to specify an X,Y offset, right before plotting begins.  
  250. In most cases, the default offsets (0,0) should be used.  In cases 
  251. where the 0,0 coordinate point of your plotter is not the lower left 
  252. corner, these offsets may be used to position the plotted image 
  253. correctly on your paper. 
  254.  
  255. (n)  The File, OShell command will now allow you to specify a path 
  256. and file name, before executing the child process.
